Biography

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Three-time Olympian
  • Became the first Canadian and North American male to record a podium finish in figure skating at the Olympic Winter Games following a bronze medal in singles in 1932
  • At the 1932 Olympic Winter Games he teamed with his sister Constance Wilson-Samuel to finish fifth in the pairs event
  • First Canadian male to capture a medal at the World Figure Skating Championships with silver medal in 1932 in Montreal
  • Won Canadian Championship nine times
  • With sister, Wilson won the Canadian Championship five times and the North American Championship in 1929, 1931 and 1933
  • Inducted in the World Figure Skating Museum and Hall of Fame in 1976 and the Skate Canada Hall of Fame in 1990
  • Inducted in the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2007

PERSONAL

  • He passed away in 1964 at the age of 55
  • Turned pro in 1939 and began teaching at the St. Paul Figure Skating Club in Minnesota
  • In 1946, he continued his coaching career at the Skating Club of Boston
  • Dedicated more than 20 years to developing several young figure skaters
