Dear Mellisa Hollingsworth,
my name is Aliza Ozera and I’m cheering for you! I think that skeleton is actually a very interesting sport. One day I would like to try it, but for now I like to play soccer and I love to read! When I grow up I’d like do do something with sports or with plants. I’m writing this letter at school because everybody in my class can wright to an olympic athlete and I choose you!
It’s so amazing that you were the first canadian to receive a medal in skeleton! You must be so proud of yourself, I would be too. Also I think it is very kind of you to be so involved with Unicef and it’s also great how you went to Ghana, Africa to help those kids. It was very generous of you and thats some of the reasons I chose to wright this letter to you!
Good luck in the 2010 olympics, I’m cheering for you!

I am an entrepreneur who starts and builds businesses. The most impressive trait that young entrepreneurs possess is their ability to take a risk and try to achieve something amazing. Whether they succeed or not is not important. The real definition of a champion is someone who puts 100% of their effort to pursue a dream.

I am the principal of Eckville Jr. Sr. High and need you to know that you are an inspiration to young athletes not only in our town, but in every small town from coast to coast.
You exemplify that an individual with heart, tenacity and commitment can scale to the heights of World Champion. In a world full of people who refuse to share their goals, their hopes and their dreams you boldly, bravely shared your ambitions with your nation.
I am able to use your accomplishments on a daily basis as real proof that there are no excuses, no barriers intertwined with the size of your community that stop a committed individual from reaching their dreams. The dignity with which you have faced your disappointment is testament to your character and professionalism.
You remain a World Champion, an Olympic medalist and a local hero. As another Alberta legend Paul Brandt put it “the best thing in life I’ve ever seen, come from small towns and big dreams.” We still believe in your dreams.

I didn't see your race, but saw a part of your conference.
A true hero in my opinion shares the tears, fears, disappointments and heartbreak. You are a hero for that, for competing in something that plainly scares the hell out of me. We are your people - the only thing you did was prove that you are a human - you have no superpowers, you can't fly (although it does look like it as you fly down that hill).
You are teaching our children that its ok to show disappointment and tears. not everyone can be the winner every time - you have to share (I have 3 and not everyone gets to be the first one).
the only way I think you could disappoint your country is if you quit. Keep going! prove that this little loss won't knock you down. Bring out that Canadian strength and stubbornness.
Canada is proud of you! My daughters are amazed by your strength and that you taught them a lesson.
THANK YOU!

Mellisa, how do you possibly think you have let Canada down? We owe you SO MUCH! There are not many people who would give up their lives and train day after day, month after month and year after year for one shot at putting their country in the spotlight. For us to believe you let us down, we would have to be a country that puts a metal before the person. I do not think we are that kind of people or country. It is possible we are the ones that let you down. Was there more support we could have provided, could our government have done more for people like you and the rest of the Canadian's that worked their guts out to put us on the world "Map"? You should be so PROUD of what you and our other athletes have a accomplished for us as a people and country. Melissa, medal or not, you are still a Canadian Hero and always will be. From personal Experience, I have learned that often times what appears to be the most shocking and devastating outcome is actually a stepping stone to something greater. I am spirital, not religious and have come to believe with all my heart that a dissapointment is nothing more than my God saying to me, "Not yet! I have something better in store for you!'
There are many factors which can affect a trip to the podium, but only skill and talent can lead to Olympic Participation. Canada loves you for your skill, talent, and for being who you are, not for the final result. You did the best you could given the circumstances at the time, there is no dissapointment in that. With nothing really for us to forgive, Canada loves you, supports you and respect you. Please forgive yourself!

Melissa:
You have obviously sacrificed a great deal to bring yourself to a position where you among the best in the world in what you do. That is a position that most of us could not have reached. For many, such a feat would never be possible, but for just as many, we just don't possess the drive, and determination and the wllingness to sacrifice in order to reach the heights that you have reached.
You were willing to put it on the line for our country. You and all the athletes have the complete respect and admiration of all Canadians. We share in your disappointment, but understand the difference between an excellent finish (5th) and a medal finish, is very small. A tiny error is the difference.
Hold your head up, and go enjoy the rest of the Games. We are all proud of you.

Define Canadian - Melissa Hollingsworth. You have everything to be proud of. Comittment, patriotism, class and elegance. You have it all. As I watched your post race interview, I knew that you, were for sure, going to be one of my highlights for this years games. As I am putting on an event, as we speak, for Haiti relief and want to invite the "who's who" from the Canadian sports, corporate and entertainment world, you for sure are now at the top of our list for requested attendees. It's not always what you win, but who's hearts and fans and respect you win from giving your best. You have won 30,000,000 of those! If interested in participating in the event, as mentioned above, in the summer in Toronto, please feel free to contact me. The kids of Haiti have a long battle on their hands and as far as compassion and drive to show support, you are an A+ example. Look forward to maybe hearing back from you or your media team. All the best, enjoy the remainder of the games and hold your head up high. You made all Canadians proud of what you have accomplished.

I saw your press conference, where you indicated that you let your country down. YOU DID NOT!! You played clean, you played with honor, and you did your best. That is all that we as Canadians expect of you. You were amazing, and it is an honor to have you as an olympic athlete representing our country.

What an inspiration you are! We do own the podium!!We are having the honour of seeing wonderful strong hearts like YOU right here! The medals are just one way of showing who is a winner. You ARE ONE!! Your heartbroken press conference shows how you honestly handle this hard experience. You didn't lose our support and won't. The only losers are the athletes who do doping...all the rest are on the podium of our hearts! Thank of all the kids you have inspired!!

Dear Mellisa,
I know I am a little late to be coming in on this conversation. However, I watched as you said that you felt like you'd let your country down and you apologized to Canadians.
You have absolutely nothing to be sorry for, nor do you need to feel like you let us down. You came in 5th in the olympics 5th!!!! That is so amazing you are doing so much better then any of us who watch you. So stand tall, and be proud of your performance, I know that Canada is cheering you on.

You did an excellent job at the Olympics -- even if you weren't standing on the podium, we all knew the amazing effort and passion you put into it. I truly hope you continue competing so that you can show the world what you're capable of in 2014.
In addition to being a fantastic athlete and a powerful woman, you are also incredibly beautiful & sincere. Wishing you all the best & many happy slides.
