I have been a figure skating fan for many many years. I've watched you come up through the ranks. I have to say I haven't been this excited about Canadian Women's Figure Skating since Elizabeth Manley took silver in the 1988 Games in Calgary! The final 3 were quite a spectacle to see indeed! Watching you gives me hope again for our Canadian Ladies! You are truly inspiring and amazing to watch! GO 4 GOLD AND OWN THE PODIUM!

You are an extremely brave young woman, Joannie, and we all admire you for wanting to still compete. As an ex-figure skater myself, I truly understand how pouring your emotions into your skating can often be therapeutic, cathartic, and may help you feel closer to the one woman who helped you to realize your dreams, your true #1 Fan...your Mom. Joannie, congratulations on your Heartfelt skate last night. Your mother definitely lifted you through your spectacular lifts and spins on your way to the podium this Thursday. I had a special Aunt Gerry who came to "Believe" in the spiritual powers of St. Anne since she had been cured miraculously after leaving the convent in Halifax. So for your performance last night I prayed with her St. Anne de Beaupre's holy water and statue throught your performance (as well as for Alex, Scott and Tessa) that you would skate the perfect performance for your dear mother and all your adoring fans. Know St. Anne will also be with you this Thursday. She came through for me with the others LOL...so God Bless.

    Dear Joannie,

I lost my mom a few years ago, and I think of her everyday. One day I was driving with my 10 year old, and I told her I was missing my mom. She asked me, "why? can you NOT see that she is right beside you right now?" I felt an instant calm, and love. In some ways I feel that she is closer to me than when she was alive - because I use to have to make an effort to contact her. call or see her. Now she is always with me in my heart. I talk to her often, but I feel her presence and her guidance always. In many Eastern faiths, it is believed that there is no death, only a renewal of life in another realm. Your mom's love, her thoughts, her connection will stay with you for the rest of etrenity. I watched your interview this morning on CBC and I am just so proud of your grace, your humility, and your strength. As proud as she is of your medal, she is prouder of the person that you are.

Strength and bravery, and the heart of an athlete… you model all of this to us and to our children. May you take time to heal after the Olympics are over, knowing that you gave all you had, and now it is time for you to be gentle with yourself. Congratulations on your medal and thank you for being a worthy role model.

Ms. Rochette, as an American I want to say how happy I was to watch your medal winning performance. You showed great courage and poise in the face of such devastating personal circumstance.

And in general, America is truly blessed to have such a great neighbor and ally as the wonderful country of Canada. Oh, Canada indeed!

I have seen amazing things in the Olympics. This year was the most outstanding I can remember. 25 medals thus far, 13 of them Gold, that is impressive but not half as impressive as you. Joannie, I lost my father in May 2008. I had to fight to find the drive to cook a meal so I can only imagine how deep you had to dig inside yourself to do what you did. You didn't just go through the motions, you won a medal at the Olympics in the middle of all that you were going through. You are amazing. You made this whole Country sit up, cry our hearts out, and you've made us all so proud. In my opinion, those 13 Gold medals pale in comparison to your bronze. I sit in awe of your talent and strength. I know the pain you are going through seems unending but when you recover, and you will, I wish you much happiness in your life. Thank you for your dedication and for being inspiration.

    Dear Joannie,

I would like to begin by expressing my condolences for the sudden passing of your mother last week. Watching your grief and sorrow play out on national TV caused my grief over the loss of my wife almost two and a half years ago to resurface every time there was a story about you. My wife was 47, she also died of heart failure. The pain hasn't disappeared but only receded.

For me, the most memorable moments of the Vancouver Olympics will be watching your two skates leading to your bronze medal victory, and seeing you carry the Canadian flag into the closing ceremonies (a very worthy choice on the part of the Canadian Olympic Committee).

Your stoicism and determination to stay and compete, even in the face of such personal adversity and pain, and the fact that you made it to the Olympic podium, not only shows your setermination and strength of character, but it also makes you a true Canadian hero in my mind.

I know that you have probably received hundreds if not thousands of messages so I don't know when you'll get around to reading this. But when you do I hope realize that there are many others like me who can relate to what you have endured and will continue to edure in the coming months.

If you ever get to Ottawa, I would relish the opportunity to meet you even briefly. You are an example of what it is to be Canadian, and you are an excellent role model for the young people of this country.

I wish you good things in the future.
