    Dear Jennifer heil,

My name is Shanese and I am a student at Lincoln Ave. Public school. In our language class we’ve been working on biographies, and my teachers assigned us a project where we had to do a biography on a Canadian Olympic athlete. I decided to do my biography on you because I was interested in learning more information about you. And, I also like to cross country ski.

I was wondering, when you travel to different places to compete, are you allowed to bring your family and friends? I would imagine it could get lonely if you didn’t have anyone who you knew around. Do you have any other friends who also compete in the Winter Olympics?

What was it like being the first Canadian woman to win a gold medal for freestyle mogul skiing in the 2006 Olympics? How has your training for the next Olympics been going? I don’t know how you find time to train AND go to school.

When you were little, did you want to be a skier when you grew up, or was there something else you wanted to be?

Hopefully you’ll win gold next February. Good luck!

    Sincerely,
    Shanese B.

    Dear Jennifer,

My name is Richard Gingras I’m fifteen years old, I live in Repentigny in Quebec. I love skiing but I’m not able to do freestyle skiing. I decide to send you a letter because I saw you skiing and I find you are very superb in freestyle skiing.

I sent this letter to encourage you to win another gold medal. I want to tell you that you’re the best freestyle skiing from Canada. The best of our history. You dominate in world cups, in the world championships and you will dominate the Olympic games in Vancouver. In Turino in 2006, you won the gold medal ! With your speed and your efficiency I’m sure that you will win another gold medal.

Jennifer, Canada is with you ! I wish you the best chances and also have some fun over there. Thanks for reading my letter and I would also appreciate if you send me an autographed picture of you.

    FANTASTIC showing tonight!
As a country THANK-YOU for the wonderful silver metal, what a GREAT showing you made. You are such an inspiration to people across this beautiful country of Canada and obviously you inspired the American tonight to put together the run of her life that just edged you out of the GOLD that I was so hoping that you would get.
Keep that smile lighting up the Olympics because your team mates and the country are warmed by it and inspired because of it.

I just finished watching your AMAZING silver medal performance and I wanted to find a way to tell you that you have made CANADIANS so proud. I watched the interview with you following your race and I was a bit upset with the focus of the questions. I really feel that all the focus on Canada winning our first gold medal at home has caused some of the questioning to take away from the true accomplishments of our amazing athletes. You not only made Canada proud by your talents and spectacular ability on the course tonight but in your grace and humble approach in your post race interview. As a Canadian watching you tonight, I am proud! Proud that you raced so well that you forced the final skier to be flawless, proud of your amazing accomplishement of a Silver medal for our country but even more, I am proud to be from a Country represented by an athlete who showed the world such grace, gratitude, respect and true sportsmanship. Thank you Jennifer for being such an amazing representative for our fine country.

I watched several clips of you on CTV prior to your Olympic competition and was so impressed by a wonderful well spoken and dedicated young lady. As always, I am always so impressed with Canadian Olympians for their dedication, perseverance, self discipline and display of patriotism for their country. This was exemplified in your comments after winning the silver...that this was Canada's medal. Your heart felt thank you to your supporters and the Canadian people who had sent you so many messages of support showed all Canadians the depth of character of those who proudly represent us all in such a dignified manner on the world stage. Please enjoy your success knowing that all Canadians should stand and cheer your accomplishments. We wish you much success in the future and have a wonderful Olympic experience.

    Dear Jennifer Heil,
My name is Arden Musgrave and I’m a Grade 6 student at Steele St. P.S. in Barrie Ont. I really enjoyed watching you ski! My whole family sat down to watch you. Even my noisy little dog was quiet and watching the TV. I was extremely happy that you won the silver medal in moguls freestyle skiing. If I was an athlete, I wouldn’t care if I won or not, I would be super excited to be there. Anyways, CONGRADULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!

How hard is moguls? I was watching “Super Bodies” and it was about all the pressure on a mogul’s skier’s knees. From what I saw, it looks like it really hurts! I bet you can hardly walk the next day!

I read that you were a freestyle swimmer for a 11 years and you competed in provincial competitions. Do you sometimes wish that you had kept on swimming? And why did you stop?

When you travel to competitions, are you allowed to bring family and friends? The support probably helps a lot. And if they can’t come, do you get lonely? But if you have any friends that also compete, it wouldn’t be to lonely. Did you make any new friends at the Olympics?

How is training? How often do you have to train? And how do you train in the summer? I find it really cool how the Ariel athletes go off a huge ramp and do tricks into a pool.

I want to thank you for the inspiration you have given me. I may not go to the Olympics one day, but I will still “do the important things to my fullest”, just like your motto says!

    Sincerely ,
    Arden Musgrave
